Insight by The Office Space – Sustainability in Business

In line with our business theme of the month, Sustainability, Insight by The Office Space returns this April with inspired and intriguing conversations by leaders in this field. For this edition of Insight, The Office Space has drummed up a roster of remarkable individuals, with sustainable work practices and exceptional views for our future.

Speakers include:

Andy Marks, Programme Director of Fix and Make at the innovative Hotel Hotel, Canberra and Founder of SleepingBags Social Enterprise Andy Marks is a social entrepreneur and an agent of positive change practicing at the intersection of business, culture and society. His current roles include Programme Director and originator of Fix and Make at Hotel Hotel, a year long series of more than 40 workshops and panel discussions exploring our relationship to objects, and board adviser to content production company Pixiu Productions.

Other ground breaking ventures Andy set-up are the UK based SleepingBags Social Enterprise which transforms end of life luxury hotel bed linen into experience rich consumer products, innovation consultancy Salad Worldwide (clients including Nokia, O2 and General Motors), branded content agency A Vision (clients including Adidas, Sony and Vodafone) and Bridge Projects Social Enterprise which aimed to build bridges between Israeli and Palestinian youth through music.

Cecille Weldon, Creator of the Liveability Real Estate Framework and Founder and Key Facilitator of Weldon Co Cecille is an innovative thinker with a proven track record in bringing together business strategy, business development, branding and knowledge management to deliver new opportunities for corporate businesses and the social sector. This expertise has been developed over 25 years experience in areas as diverse as strategic and creative management, marketing, systems development, event design and management, publishing and production, interior and industrial design.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Dip Ed) and a Graduate Diploma in Linguistics, specialising in Semantics (the study of meaning) and Sociolinguistics (the study of the relationship between language and social and cultural values). This informs much of her unique approach to strategy, brand and content. Cecille is responsible for the creation and development of the Banksia award-winning Liveability Real Estate Framework designed to drive a new value proposition for homes with the potential for reduced running costs and increased comfort. Developed over a four-year period, in collaboration with the sustainable design and building/construction industries, this ground breaking property marketing framework encompasses Liveability Real Estate Specialist training, exclusive online and print property listing tools, the 17 Things™ Appraisal Checklist™ and the collaborative consumer portal liveability.com.au. Seen by many as the future of real estate, the Liveability Framework also includes ‘the language of liveability’ which repositions sustainability as an integrated, aspirational element of your best home; healthy, efficient, comfortable and connected to your local community and Jessica Miller, Leader of 202020Vision and Founder of Grow it Local A self describe ‘General Enthusiast.’

Jess leads the 202020Vision – a collective impact campaign that is increasing and improving urban green space by 20% by 2020 by working with government, developers, designers and the community. Jess founded Grow it Local a campaign that seeks to improve urban and suburban food resilience by encouraging small-scale urban farming through cunning events, trickery, bribery and the insertion of enormous veggie patches and other distractions alongside major thoroughfares. She is the TEDxSydney Food Curator. In this role she introduced the concept of Crowd-FarmingRebel Food and this year is working toward something just as special.

Jess curates the General Thinking on the Streets of Barangaroo event series, has an unhealthy obsession with MMA, the Melbourne Demons, and especially enjoys long bike rides alongside airports – particularly during peak hour. Insight by The Office Space is a monthly talk series hosted at Golden Age Cinema within Paramount House in Surry Hills.

Each month, The Office Space selects and invites three inspiring entrepreneurs across various fields including commerce, design and technology to discuss the evolution of their business strategies and brand under a common theme. The objective is to introduce those attending to a broader professional community, and ideally engage and inform them of unique and diverse approaches to business, from a set of leaders in the field. Insight by The Office Space in 2016 will cover a diverse, exciting range of topics, and will be partnering with great events like Vivid Ideas 2016. Stay tuned.
