Since Captain Cook first landed at Inscription Point, Botany Bay, in 1770 and claimed it for Britain, it seems Australian’s have been obsessed with staking our claim across this great southern land. Dividing and conquering and subdividing this sunburnt country has become a democratic right – perhaps best encapsulated by The Castle (1997), and a national pastime – with Australians reportedly spending twice as much time researching property than exercising at the gym or speaking to their parents. This month The Office Space looks at property, and its significance to our national economy and personal lifestyle.

THOUGHT considers the factors that have influenced the Great Australian Dream of a detached house on a quarter block, and how that continues to evolve in our current “severely unaffordable” housing market. Our GUIDE article considers Sydney suburbs that still offer value, and TREND explores ways to get into the housing market even without a mortgage. In PROFILE we talk to Boris Tosic of Elan Construct, who spent many years building high end office fitouts for blue chip companies before opening his own – The Office Space – some 15 years ago. We close out the month with an INSIGHT panel that spans the residential, commercial and construction sectors with Josephine Sukkar AM (Principal and Co-Owner of Buildcorp), Ivan Bresic (Bresic Whitney), and Barrie Barton (Founder of Right Angle Studio).

Also be sure the check the very entertaining and informative Insight recap on 21st Century travel to hear about towel theft, Tuscan beef bacchanalia, Transylvanian strawberries and more.
